This is a solo remix version of the earlier song "The Fastest Train" that Steve recorded as part of the duo Lunar Thorn in 2020.

Lyrics

As the long hot summer was ending
It was time to stop their pretending
No more dreaming ‘bout somewhere
they’d never been
He first caught her attention
As a lost soul seeking redemption
Trusting that a little rain
might wash them clean

In search of a new destination,
they went down to the station
Hoping to go somewhere
that would ease their pain
She poured them both a coffee
as he dreamt how they could break free
When they first climbed aboard
the mystery train

They travelled on for a couple of weeks
From deepest valleys to highest peaks
He lost track of places
that he thought he knew
Her gaze drifting so far away
As she sat on a bench by the bay
The lessons that they learned there
still hold true

In search of a new destination,
they waited at the station
Hoping to go somewhere
that would ease their pain
So, he poured another coffee
as she came in from the wild sea
Then they got back on board
the mystery train

He‘d only wanted one thing from her
But she looked haunted,
so he took much more.
She hoped this ride could last forever
But the station was just
beyond that door

Time cut through them like a knife
They learned things that lasted for life
Knew now the price of pleasure
might be pain
Their view changed, but it couldn’t last
The scenery was moving too fast
As they fell on to a platform in the rain

No more new destinations,
they were back at the same station
Hoping something else
might ease their pain
So, they drank a final coffee,
now they knew they couldn’t break free
Said a sad farewell
and boarded different trains
