This is about the feeling of being ignored by your friend, colleague or partner. The abusive partner in these types of relationship will often use the silent treatment as a form of manipulation.
Research into personality styles suggests that narcissism, which is one of the styles that abusers can display, has its seeds in the early years when a child feels undervalued or unappreciated by the parents. While these circumstances are awful and it would be a better world if bad parenting like this could be prevented, suffering trauma is not an excuse to inflict it on others.
